"Over-accessorized!" Sprint regional commercial - Makeup Artist

At my internship at Rutan productions, I worked on many commercials, but this was the second corporate commercial on which I have worked as a makeup artist.  The first commercial I did was mostly naturalistic makeup, but this was more beauty/fashion.  This commercial is airing regionally right now until the accessory sale ends. Directed by The Brothers Olsen.

Hobo Bill's Last Ride - Actor

My friend Joshua Wacker is one of the most creative people I know.  He was a film student at Messiah with me and is an amazing art director.  When he said he wanted to make a music video about hobos having a picnic, I was instantly on board.

I did the dirt makeup and acted... in a type of role that I've definitely haven't had before and one I don't think I'll ever play again!

Advanced Vein and Laser was a 30-second TV spot that I wrote from scratch based on information from the website.  There are two versions which are switched out for each doctor featured.

Cintas was a recruitment video that I wrote.  I researched the company, took notes on what they were looking for, and closely examined other recruitment videos to craft this.

Forrer Dodge is a 30-second TV spot which I wrote.  I tried to keep the emphasis on family.

Courage to Dream: The Leg Up Farm Story - Producer

This was a 30 minute television special that aired on abc27-WHTM in June 2012.  I managed the set, wrote much of the stand-up, and worked with the host, Mike Ovadia.  I was present at meetings with abc representatives, took useful notes, and assisted the cameraman/editor, Myles Klinger.  I found a royalty-free song for use at the end of the special and I wrote out a music cue sheet for the network.

The entire video can be viewed on abc27's website:

Kno Clothing Spring/Summer 2012 - Makeup Artist

The same day that "Smile" was shot, the same crew also worked on a promotional video for Kno's new line.  Kno Clothing is a company that is dedicated to eradicating homelessness and one of the founders is a Messiah College alum!  They are amazing young men who are truly making a difference in the world and it was awesome to get to be a part of this!  I was mua on this shoot.

Bethesda Mission

Last week, I recorded and edited some videos for Bethesda Mission.  This was one of the blessings of being an intern: The mission needed someone to do these videos in preparation for their Do a 180 weekend, but they had no budget for it.  Since I'm an intern, my boss at the production company was able to send me to do it.  And what a good experience it was for me!

"AAA" spots - Production Manager

On my second and third days of my internship at Rutan Productions in New Cumberland, I acted as production manager/production assistant for a shoot for AAA Central PA, interacting with the clients, keeping track of the schedule, and even running sound when needed.

"Smile" - Makeup Artist

In my last post, I mentioned doing makeup for Rick Hansberry's "Smile" produced by actress Sarah Hawkins.  This 60-second film was released and is a finalize in Fine Living Lancaster's 60 Second Film Fest.

What I'm Doing Now

I've been living the stressful and exciting life of a freelancer!  It's strange to go from being very busy to not busy at all, but I love how unpredictable the projects can be.  Here's a little bit of what I've been up to lately:

- Preparing "Waiting Room" for exhibition.  I'm not allowed to announce it yet, but the premiere will be in late April, and a trailer will be out within two weeks.  Post-production has been going really smoothly and it's been quite a journey!  The official poster has just been released, so be sure to check it out in the facebook page and "like" it!  facebook.com/waitingroomshortfilm

- I got to do makeup on a shoot produced by Sarah Hawkins for Kno Clothing, a company that aims to eradicate homelessness.  I worked with three models and did makeup on Sarah for a short film by Lancaster-based filmmaker Rick Hansberry called "Smile."  The company CEOs were present, and it was a blessing to work with people with such beautiful hearts.

- Co-writing "New Hope" with Naomi King, a feature-length film that has already been picked up by Group 13 Productions.  The film is about a girl who finds out she's adopted right after her high school graduation and sets off on a journey to find them - and the only information she has about them is that they were modern-day hippies!

- Participating in Script Frenzy, an international challenge to write 100 pages of material in the 30 days in April.  The first short film script I'm working on is for a TV show series called "The Indie Flicks," which already has a director and crew in place.

- I'm still selling Mary Kay cosmetics.  I mostly work with young actors and models and give them specific information that only a makeup artist would be able to share with them for their careers.

- Editing some dance videos.  The last video I edited was for a girl auditioning for the Radio City Rockettes.  (I hope she gets it!)  I LOVE editing dance videos.

A huge thanks to everyone who has supported me these last few months!

ConnectCare3 Commercial

In January, I had the opportunity to do makeup on a commercial for ConnectCare3 (a nurse navigator service) directed by Lancaster-based filmmaker Mary Haverstick and produced by Michele Mercure. These actresses were lovely and I hope to be able to work with this production company again in the future!  Working with people who love what they do is what makes me want to keep pursuing a career in this industry.
